Content blocks

Content blocks let you author rich content — formatted text, callouts, call-to-action buttons — and place it into slots your site already declares, whenever you want, without waiting on a developer.

This is a capability enabled depending on your plan (see the product page). If the Content blocks menu doesn't appear in your dashboard, it isn't enabled on your account yet — talk to us.

How it differs from site content

Unlike site content, which edits a field already present on a page, a content block adds a new piece of content into a slot built for that purpose. You never create a new page or URL: you publish content into slots your site fork has declared in advance.

What a block can contain

  • Formatted text (paragraphs).
  • A callout, to highlight information.
  • A call-to-action button, linking to a page on your site or an external URL.

Authoring and placing a block

Write the block

From the Content blocks section of the admin, create a new block and write its content in the editor. A newly created block starts as a draft, not visible on your public site.

Choose a slot

Each slot is declared in advance by your site, with a maximum number of blocks it can hold. You pick from the slots available on your site — never a free-form slot or a new position.

A slot already at its maximum capacity can't take another block until one is removed from it.

Publish

Once the block is placed into a slot, publish it to make it visible on your public site. You can come back to a draft as many times as you need before publishing it.

Next step

See the other customization capability, site content, which lets you edit text already present on your site instead of adding new content.
